I don’t know anyone who has both a state id and a state drivers license. There’s no need.

I would say, the US is like 50 countries in a trench coat.

It’s somewhere between the EU and, say, UK’s counties. Even UK’s constituent countries don’t necessarily have the amount of home rule that US states do.

You don’t technically need any ID to fly, it just becomes more of a pain in the ass. Just like you don’t technically need to go through the body scanner, but again, it becomes more of a pain in the ass.

Fun fact: They were pushing it back because some states wouldn’t accelerate the process of making their standard state IDs compliant. They finally said no more delays.

WA state IDs are still not universally REAL ID compliant, you have to get a separate compliant state ID via an appointment. Unless as I noted above you have one of the other documents (passport, passport card, green card, military id, etc.)

I honestly don’t know how this is even possible. Doesn’t the withholding go directly to the IRS? The issue of federal income tax is between the federal government and the taxpayer.

I’m not even talking about good parents vs bad parents. I’m talking about the reasons people have kids. What is the positive reason to have children? I can’t think of one that isn’t a bad prediction, like wanting to bring a good person into the world. It’s not like raising children is a fun fair either. So it’s rewarding? Well first of all that’s selfish, second of all that’s something that people apply to literally every difficult situation they manage to get through.

So what’s the utilitarian reason for having kids? They’re all either selfish or prideful. Even if you’re a good parent.

Everyone is like “no you’re wrong” but I’m not seeing any actual counter arguments or examples of reasons to have kids that aren’t ultimately self-interested and/or bad speculation.

I’m not about to @ people for having kids, but I have to say that in my experience, the whole idea is nothing but a conceit. People want kids for bad reasons. There’s really no sensible reason to have a child in the human world. Fine, go have kids, but don’t come back years later upset your kid is rebelling or not following your beliefs or doing bad things or not following in your footsteps or listening to your advice or whatever the fuck. You basically played a slot machine with no jackpot.
