Edison was a problematic person to say the least, but he was an inventor and he did not come from wealth. I think that nowadays it’s pretty much known that he was an asshole that attached his name to inventions that he had very little to do with, but at least he did contribute some things. Elon Musk is a con-man through and through.

They probably mean that Moroccanoil (an Israeli-owned company that makes hair oil) is a main sponsor of Eurovision.

Grotesco could easily win Eurovision if they ever cared to enter. So many of their songs live rent-free in Swedish people’s heads and this is hardly even top 10.

Hey now. Despite everything, Edison was an actual inventor and actually a self-made man. Musk doesn’t have shit on Edison.

Immigration leads to far-right nutjobs threatening politicians so they leave their positions?

Right. So you just outed your specialized interest in a fringe issue. The thread is about female politicians leaving the limelight, and you just had to force a connection to your pet theory of how the world works, didn’t you.
Nevermind that the reason they leave is almost always threats from far-right nutjobs.

Yeah but the tide is turning, at least in Sweden and it seems in the US as well. It’s decreasingly socially acceptable to shame people into going alone with war crimes and ethnic cleansing, and it is especially ugly to use accusations of bigotry to promote bigotry.

Good video essay on the topic by Lindsay Ellis.
Incidentally I love that the video has raised $800k for Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund.

Quit your bullshit. The person who murdered Ing-Marie Wieselgren (national coordinator for psychiatry) in front of Annie Lööf (leader of Centerpartiet) in 2022 was Theodor Engström. This article is news because Anna-Karin Hatt (leader of Centerpartiet) quit a couple of weeks back, in response to online threats.
If you look at the incidence of violence against women in Europe, there is no correlation with immigration. Sure, Sweden is ranked as number 2, which seems bad and you might infer that it has something to do with demographics. Just one problem - Finland is number 1, with 1/10th of Sweden’s immigration. Denmark and Hungary are also really high up. You can try to draw your own conclusions but a clear correlation to immigration is a hard sell.

At least 591 times since October 10. But don’t worry, it was totally justified. I heard some of those children they murdered had crossed the invisible yellow line, so they were fair game.

They were hoping to benefit from a stronger relationship to the USA, and being the nexus between the USA and the EU. But the USA is just shitting on all of its supposed friends, and the EU is slowly but surely withdrawing from the Atlantic partnership.

Imagine a world where the USA, after 9/11, took up Iran’s offer to negotiate with Afghanistan in order to extradite Osama bin Laden and dismantle al Qaeda. (Iran together with Pakistan were positioned to succeed at this, and practically begged the USA to let them do so.)
Imagine Osama bin Laden goes to the Hague and is tried for his crimes. He goes to prison, no death penalty and no martyrdom, to rot away while the world gets on without him.
Imagine no black sites, no Guantanamo Bay. No Iraq war, and therefore no Daesh. No Afghanistan war, and therefore no opiates epidemic.
Imagine how Russia and the Middle East might have evolved in such a climate. Where would Europe be today, in that timeline? Would democracies across the globe have progressed, instead of backslide?

Actually they have the largest proven oil reserve in the world, although it is a composition that needs more processing to turn into fuel. Which may make it unique for precursors for certain plastics, pharmaceuticals or advanced materials.
Top estimated reserves are:
As for gas reserves, it’s

As a Linköping native, I can tell you right now how this is going to go down.
Saab will offer a really sweet deal including Canadian factories that can produce everything that Sweden makes for the Gripen. It will be on a short timeline and a good price. Canada will be locked in to help co-design the next generation of Swedish fighters.
Canada will use this as leverage against the USA. Then the USA will finally set their foot down and tell Canada in no uncertain terms that if they buy Gripen they’ll get locked out of various US weapons systems indefinitely and end up on the US’s shit list. But if they stop their ridiculous outburst they can get on the shortlist for some really cool destructive toys.
Also, aren’t we all supposed to be one team America, you me and Mexico, guy?
Canada will most likely cave and Gripen will have fulfilled its role as a bargaining chip. I wouldn’t even blame Canada, this is how it’s gone down almost every time in the past 30 years and Canada has much better reasons than most to keep on the US’s good side.

Fighter jets running on fiber?

There’s no way remote-controlled drones are going to be top-shelf items in the next generation. Even now, comm interference pretty much prohibits the use of remote-controlled drones in any scenario which involves actual armies rather than shepherds with AKs. That’s why Ukraine uses fiberoptic cables for their FPV drones. Beyond that, in a real war satellite constellations will go down real fast.

Likely there will be no such thing as a 6th gen fighter jet. The pilot will be replaced by AI, so the next gen will have completely different requirements.

To be fair most Gripen crashes happened in the early days, as a result of purposefully pushing the plane and pilot to their limits. Flying low enough to scrape treetops, sudden high-G manouvers… they train like they’re in an actual war.
