  • They want a civil war, or rather a cultural war between civilians, to detract from a class war. They want the civilians to be fighting among themselves (i.e. left vs right), rather than uniting against ruthless billionaires and grifters in the government. Having a civil war would also make some of their false claims become “true”, e.g. that cities are “war zones” and that they “need” to utilize the Insurrection Act and put the military everywhere without any remaining legal obstructions. I mean they still do it partially already, which is bad enough, but when a civil war would actually exist (like they claim), then they could also claim that what they were lying about the whole time is actually “true” (just not at all the way they said it to be, but the end result would be kind of the same: war zones inside cities) and they’d be legally allowed to be even more oppressive than they are already. It would increase their power overall. It would lead to a guaranteed dictatorship. Dictators love using “emergencies” to grab full, unrestricted power. So it’s best to never aid them while they try to construct an emergency where there is none. That exposes their lies better.

  • Just like you wouldn’t do a trip to North Korea or some war-torn country, you shouldn’t do a trip to USA in 2025. The country is currently in deep crisis with a rogue regime consisting of neo-nazi zealots & grifters and a big chunk of the population brainwashed by regime-supported propaganda on national TV (Fox News) and other random bullsh!t on proprietary social media, also radicalizing parts of the population. Plus they can all own guns legally. It’s neither a safe nor sane country currently. Sorry for the decent Americans out there but your situation is really bad and I don’t think you can turn this around non-violently anymore.

  • Why this is happening: right-wing extremist propaganda on popular proprietary social media, and random people believing it and radicalizing themselves. Of course it’s going to spawn more radicalized right-wing extremists, everywhere the propaganda machine turns its head towards (they managed to ruin USA, now they’re trying to ruin Europe). Normal people will become more radicalized in the process. It’s like a global cult and its propaganda distribution mechanism is the internet. Not everyone will have enough education or media literacy to resist this. China and Russia are the big benefactors of a divided and in-fighting West.

  • There are really only 2 options I think: a) either Dump is a Russian asset, in which case he’s lying, or b) he’s not a Russian asset but simply doesn’t care about the war in Europe and wants the US not spending any money there, and to achieve that he’s also lying. Both cases kind of result in the same, so it doesn’t even matter whether a) or b) is true. He will in both cases just say whatever makes him look the least bad but so that he can still achieve his goal of not supporting Ukraine or Europa in its war against Putin. I’ve never seen such obvious lying, deflection and (in other contexts) corruption from any other administration. Sure, many politicians lie and are corrupt, but here it’s orders of magnitude more extreme.

  • First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me

    — Martin Niemöller

Adapted for the fascist regime in USA today, it should probably go like this:

First they came for the illegal immigrants
And I did not speak out
Because I was not an illegal immigrant

Then they came for the legal immigrants
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a legal immigrant

Then they came for the political opposition
And I did not speak out
Because I was not in the political opposition

Then they came for anyone not loyal on social media
And I did not speak out
Because I was not on social media

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me

—Someone who survived what’s to come

  • Yes, but that somehow doesn’t change anything ever. They do horrible thing A, world is shocked about A, then they do horrible thing B, world is shocked about A+B, then they do horrible thing C, world is shocked about B+C (A has already been forgotten by that point). And so on. We don’t really have proper checks & balances in place against malicious politicians with too much power and too many loyalists in key positions. So they can do whatever and get away with a ton. I mean I thought there should be checks and balances working to correct this in any modern democracy but then again checks & balances also fail regularly in other areas, e.g. in anti-corruption or in pro data protection. Everything’s conveniently broken in some way and can be exploited. The key people from the Trump administration and/or Heritage Foundation should already be behind bars for lifetime.

  • I also almost skipped it. Glad I didn’t. I enjoyed season 1 very much so far, haven’t yet started season 2. Andor is great because it’s much different from “normal” Star Wars. It’s simply a great story with good acting and doesn’t have much of the “cringe” or high fantasy stuff from Star Wars and is full of great writing with lots of relatable references to today’s political issues. It’s also much more mature than classical Star Wars which appeals more to kids. It kind of stands on its own as a great sci-fi story of the beginning of a rebellion against an evil and almighty empire. And even if Andor should become worse over time, season 1 at least is very good and can be watched in isolation from the rest. “The Mandalorian” is also decent but I enjoyed Andor even more. I’d say Andor is the best output from Star Wars in existence today, by a big margin. Trailing behind that are “The Mandalorian” and the movie “Rogue One”. If you normally don’t like Star Wars, you can still safely watch Andor and/or these two and just ignore everything else from the franchise. IMHO of course.

  • If laws and the constitution are not or can not be enforced, they are mere “optional guidelines” for these people to ignore. Either you take action against blatantly illegal actions, or you might just as well welcome your next dictator with some presents, right now already actually, because it won’t get any better when they already start ignoring laws/constitution right now. It’s a pure downward spiral from there, and it sends a clear signal to the administration and all of its allies that laws are optional right now. Also, regular people would already be fined/jailed/shot for doing 0.000001% of the wrongdoings of this administration. If there is such a thing like an actual justice system and a system of checks and balances in the US, then wake it the fuck up or it dies in its sleep. Much sooner than later.
