I almost didn’t make it, myself. You can do everything “right” and still get murdered. A piece of paper will not stop someone sufficiently motivated.

And of course, if you suffer mentally because of the abuse, it’s used against you in court to show how “unstable” you are, and that you are just exaggerating about the danger you’re in.

There are even carved out exceptions for cops that are perpetrators of domestic violence. No gun for you if your victim successfully makes a case that you are violent… Unless you’re part of the police force, then carry on. Surely the victim will be safe!

I wish I had citations for this, but I seem to recall reading one of his books about preventing divorce. It could have been another god awful Christian couple book, though. I did read a few of his books.

If a hetero couple is married, and the man wants to leave his wife for another woman, the wife needs to just take it and do nice things for him in order to convince him to stay.

If he is not treating her right, she cannot outright say it. (If she makes him feel bad, it is her fault if he finds someone else!) No, instead she needs to lead him to good examples.

As a wife, a woman must cook delicious food. If she is a bad cook, she is a bad wife.

I don’t remember if it was in another book, but if a man disciplines his daughter too harshly, the wife should not stop him. Instead, she needs to talk to the daughter separately, try to make her feel better, and not make the dad look bad. Because if you stand up for your child, you are emasculating him or something. (Enabler much?)

The only positive thing I saw was him seeing bisexuals as distinct from homosexuals. Not that he had anything good to say about either, but… No bi erasure?

I am a parent. I have no problem with “adult-only” spaces. I don’t bring my kid to a lot of places where it is not appropriate. There are plenty of child-friendly places activities for kids. Yeah, it sucks that I have to make arrangements ahead of time if want to go to an adult-only space, but that’s what you do as a responsible parent.

It is only an issue if parents face discrimination for something that actually matters, like access to housing, food, and medical care or career opportunities.

And it’s a start. Make public transportation easier to access. Find public education better. Don’t sic CPS on parents that let their children play outside.

Love the way the local places tend not to have employees that have been so abused they lost all the light behind their eyes.

I knew a fellow that was in his 80s that worked at the same shitty company I did. It was also pretty clear to me that he just couldn’t keep up. Very sweet guy too. Conscious of racism, opposed a lot of bad policies (and took direct action in his younger years).

He told me one day that he worked there so he could afford care for his wife. Soon after his wife passed, so did he. Didn’t really get to retire.

Yeah I thought I was going nuts here. The eggs seemed like one of the least wasteful parts of the whole celebration.

I was raised Roman Catholic and I was taught about the schism.

However, it was framed as the Eastern Orthodox Catholics broke off from mainstream Catholicism, therefore Roman Catholics were the “original Catholics.”

It does kind of tickle me how much the folks that taught me that, value tradition so highly that they try to rationalize this kind of thing until they once are “traditional.”
