It feels different this time. Certainly news coverage is different. They are taking concrete steps.

I’m ootl. Who is being told they have to work 13 hr days?

Western Canada is cutting loose it seems, they’ve had it with their government. Whether or not they have anything to do with the US is still to be seen. They might benefit a little financially from it, but the land will be better off if they don’t. We’ll come in and trash everything.

Hopefully they’ll be shooting video in case drones or flares start coming down on them again.

I think everyone should be shooting down drones. Their existence watching us or worse is in itself an act of violence. End surveillance and hunt down the drones that are weapons of war.

The US government already doesn’t give Americans aid.

So, both of the political parties?

No one will complain when he is killed in prison. My only hope is that he gets tortured sufficiently before he dies.

I am not a murderer, but I also don’t believe that killing to protect innocents is murder.

I wonder how it works for public photography. If I take a picture of a crowd, is every single person a copyright strike?

Point taken! I was just trying to not completely disagree to be nice. I guess I didn’t think it through. The US government is a beast that has tried to hide itself from the people with lies and propaganda for a long time. The info that came out about JFK’s assassination recently gives a glimpse that it’s been going on for a long time.
I’m not a fan of Trump, but neither is the deep state war & money machine. They’re trying to stir up violence from the left to goad Trump into further eroding our right to protest and other rights. It’s why they fund both parties and widen political rifts. They win no matter who wins any given election.

The only thing new is it’s the US doing it from across the world. This kind of thing has happened many times in history. It has happened in Africa and Asia, the Americas. There are probably elements that are unprecedented, but the bigger story is not.

No but I’ve been detained for no reason way too many times. Honestly this was half the reason I made the comment I did. Every time you’re pulled over for a traffic stop you’re detained. The writers need to make it clear that what is going on goes way beyond a basic detainment.

Probably in the middle. Closer to 50 or 60, but you’re not wrong in saying I exaggerated. Fifty does feel like a hundred though. Sitting on the curb in handcuffs when you didn’t break any laws. That’s California cops for you though.

I’m a citizen and I’ve been detained like 100 times and I have a clean record. Detaining people over bs isn’t new. It’s nice that people seem to care at the moment but I bet they don’t care enough to fix it, because most people underneath it all are authoritarian. They’re happy as long as they’re in power and the govt is detaining the “right” people.

I mean it’s in the context. They’re shutting down rare mineral resources but given a few years other countries can replace those supplies. If China wants to cripple certain abilities, they probably want to act before we have found workarounds for their actions. Also, as crazy as Trump has seemed so far, the US is nowhere near uninfluential. Yet. He gained influence during his last term. I wouldn’t write him off as completely insane just yet.

This makes me think they’re going to move on Taiwan sooner rather than later.

I’m actually semi prepared for this. My shit paying job is working for a non-profit that distributes food to people who need it, and honestly those who work there have the first access to the resources if they are in dire need. If all of that were to fall apart, and it could, my history is in working in food service and frankly I can get a food service job as well as anyone else. I’m super qualified. It might pay shit, but if anybody can do it I can and somebody will be doing that job as long as any jobs exist.
If the economy collapses completely and there are no jobs, I’m kind of prepared for that too. I’ve got a .22 rifle with a suppressor and a crap load of ammo that I can feed my family with for at least a couple of years feeding on squirrels and cats and dogs and fuck it humans if I have to. Not that I want to eat any of those things but damn it I’m going to survive. I’m not someone who advocates poaching or breaking laws, but when it comes to survival everything goes out the window. I know how to garden too. I have crazy amounts of filtration capability for water also, not to mention you can just boil it and as long as we’re not dealing with irradiated Fallout water, I’ll be fine. I could live the next year just in a quarter of the camping gear that I own, no matter what the weather. Birds make good eating too. If everyone’s money becomes completely valueless, I’m better off than most.

Most of Oregon hates Portland these days, and I grew up in Portland. But I don’t think secession would be up to a vote, it would be decided by violence like it always has been. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be successful, but I think Portland would still be burned to the ground.
Link is broken for me
