While I do quite enjoy that Adama line, it stems from myth and is just not true. Police are enforcers of the state’s will upon domestic populations. They protect and serve the state first and foremost; any positives they happen to provide citizens in general are not the point and certainly not mandatory when at odds with whims of those in power.
