You’re so optimistic! I wish my fellow Americans actually had even one data point. America invented most of the techniques of oppression and tyranny that we exported abroad and renamed fascism. But Foucault and his boomerang have always been correct, it’s just colonialism brought home to recolonize the imperial core.

Americans haven’t read a single history book if they can help it, and proudly so, while the only progress made on oppression has been finding new and ever more complex ways to dissipate and disguise it.

You’re correct that it’s actually a non-issue: trans people are a ridiculously small minority, most Americans who don’t live in a city have probably never met a trans person, yet the entire nation has been whipped into frenzied “debate” about fairness in sports, bathroom needs, and other very unserious issues.

The answers are also very obvious. No trans person has ever dominated a sport, otherwise you’d have heard about this. The actual problem with hormones in sports is rampant steroid abuse, trans issues distract from that. Likewise, just have unisex private bathrooms. Treating humans like indistinguishable cattle is already a problem.

None of this, however, relates to the issue of Mayor Pete. Politicians don’t really “raise issues” from their constituents, not primarily anyway. They raise issues from their donors, and they shape public discourse with what they draw attention to. Buttigieg could support trans people with a word and move on to real issues. He could ignore trans people and call out Republicans for distracting people. He could do so many things, but he chooses to focus on this. It can’t be ignored that he’s a gay man also. The intent here is to further wedge between LGB and T.

The ruler class has been working overtime on this for years, because breaking the solidarity of LGBTQ+ people destroys an important progressive bloc held together by shared oppression. If you convince male gays that lesbians and trans people are making too much noise and drawing bad attention, you can split them up and push the whole lot of us back into the closets.

These issues aren’t isolated concerns that operate as pure distractions. They’re various fronts in the class war; you can’t ignore a flanking maneuver as a “distraction” while the cavalry runs rampant over you.

I’ll reiterate a comment I made earlier today:

Peaceful protest is only a meaningful choice when violence is also a real option.

Otherwise you’re just holding a pointless rally. Might as well show up with handcuffs on already.

Aside from the psychological/sociological side of it, PFAS and microolastics have been shown in some studies to reduce women’s fertility and to mess with sperm. So environmental damage is also poisoning us and destroying our ability to procreate. Go team!

I’m not sure if I should bring up the homeless vets with PTSD who’d love someone to talk to, for hire or not, qualified or not; or if I should make light of asking my own friend for hire about coping with the depression and anxiety of living in a world that the ultrawealthy have immiserated for their wealth.

The rich are worried about people hating them for being rich while everyone else is burning out from the stress of coping with living in situations that are literally depressing.

Maybe people don’t need to feel better about it? Maybe the rich should be afraid and feel like shit? Maybe the poor should be angry and upset? Maybe people on the internet use humor to cope with difficult situations and being a wokescold finger-wagger about it is counterproductive?

As I’ve heard it expressed, Chinese thinking is that capitalism can be kept in service to the (communist) state but then you see their capitalists investing in international Nazis (just like all capitalists) and I wonder how long they think they can ride that leopard before it throws them and starts eating faces.

This is just willful misunderstanding of history. Several of the founders were against political parties, but since game theory hadn’t been invented yet they put in place a system that would force a two or one party system. Which it quickly did. There have been two parties from the very beginning, just not the same two parties. But arguably, the same two broad positions: the Federalists favored elites, while the DRs favored liberalism.

Why? So they can betray you at a critical junction to claim power for themselves, or so you can betray them without feeling too guilty about it?

Because you sure as hell can’t work with them on any leftist projects. They have zero desire to unconcentrate the accumulated power in Washington, only to claim it for themselves.

With massive tariffs on all incoming food, and sabotaging our vital food producing areas, its almost like he’s either deliberately damaging the country or using famine as a tool to commit mass murder of the poor.

It’s also a revelation-of-the-method: authoritarians love to gloat about how they’re doing it right in front of you, with tools you trusted, and you can’t stop it.

Deny his lies and false orders.

Defend your community from fascist oppression.

Depose that orange fucker and all his stooges.

Obviously they want to make an example. They’ll drag him through the mud in court, reveal that he was sexually deviant, claim he cheated on tests in school, played video games, played d&d, worshipped Satan, on and on. Then, when they’ve dragged the court out long enough to bore people, they’ll execute him publicly and call it justice.

They won’t epstein him, too obvious and likely to generate martyrdom. Killing him like a “common murderer” shows that “the system works” and that the machinery of the state’s actions are natural and inevitable.

Or maybe they’ll try to just lock him away forever and get him to write some books to make the prisons a little more money. Works for serial killers, and sales of “How to murder a CEO” will help to defuse revolutionary sentiment by recuperating the murder as an exotic one-off situation. He’s gonna get simple-ricked.
