I suspect that oil companies have CA over a barrel. Part of what makes fuel in CA so expensive is that CA requires a special blend be sold here, much of which is refined locally. That all said, I suspect that should the state actually impose these fines, the refiners would simply refuse to produce or artificially limit supply, sending prices and CA into a frenzy, the anger of which would be directed at the state. The refiners know this, and therefore the state has limited options to keep the peace.

It also took quite a while for consequences to appear. It’d really be nice to nip this in the bud now than have to go some 15 years before we can see the light.

I think the reason they shot those two women was because they gauged that no one around would do anything about it. If people begin to threaten harm to these cowards, I’d hope they think twice about it. There’s more of us than them, and they’ll eventually push people to the point where they feel they have nothing left to lose.

Anymore, all discourse is plagued with disinformation and dishonesty. It seems like anyone with a microphone is trying to spin every possible situation to gain followers or attract people to their side of the conversation, and at some point we need to ignore the chatter and start looking at the world with our own eyes, not through a phone screen.

As a Californian, while I’m sure we have the thoughts and prayers support from others across the country and world, I suspect we’re pretty much on our own. It won’t be long before other blue states are fighting their own similar fights against hostile takeover, and red states are cheering this shit on because “Commiefornia.” And honestly, people are, but city councils are also doing their own balancing acts, if they aren’t already MAGA infested. There isn’t really a unified response as of yet, but I suspect that’ll change as more of CA becomes threatened.
