  • Taking accountability looks like not inventing ways to be personally offended about people pointing out who Americans democratically elected to their leadership, and honestly acknowledging what many Americans actually want.

How about you shut the fuck up about being some special non-American American and realize that literally nobody blamed you personally and yet you are going out of your way to act personally offended that Americans are being asked to take accountability for democratically electing their President.

Put all this energy you have into getting mad at random people online for saying things that aren’t even about you into leaving the country for good if you actually hate being identified as an American so much.

You may not be the exactly same as all the MAGA types but you’re not too far off with them with how unhinged and angry you are.

  • That’s where youre’ totally wrong. immigrates tend to congregate in specific areas, often for their own normal reasons. They are not ‘evenly distributed’ across the country. Nor, should they be.

So you’re refining your accusation to saying that people who looking down on this town for being excessively anti-immigrant are something like bumfuck rural types who don’t live anywhere near immigrants? You might have things backwards here.

It’s a complex problem that everyone here is trying to reduce to moral issue, which tells me they have no clue what they are talking about and have never dealt with it. They just want to grandstand about it.

How would it tell you that?

But having a large number of immigrants dumped in your town/city has lots of problems and acknowledign and protesting that isn’t horrible and racist.

This town didn’t hold a protest, did they.

Do they have a special private fund? In USA over here, we just pass a special budget and drop millions into housing and helping immigrants, meanwhile when it comes to providing social services for own citizens, all the sudden the money isn’t available… my own state does this all the time and people are rightfully outraged.

What state holds socialist policies for immigrants only and none for its citizens?

There is plenty of data for that in the USA. I can’t speak to the UK. But if you allocate a 10 million for special immigration funding… and then cut school health/budgets… what would you call that?

    A right wing disinformation campaign.

  • So your entire assertion above is assuming that everyone else doesn’t have to deal with the problem of immigration, so they can throw peanuts from afar without dealing with that problem?

I’m pretty sure everyone here lives somewhere with immigrants. So that’s a strange thing to accuse everyone else of.

and that already, has backlash, because why are these people getting so many social services that aren’t even available to your own citizens?

There are special interest funds and help for all kinds of groups, private and public. Citizens have more social services that aren’t available to all immigrants by default. There has never been any data to support this assertion that immigrants receive the benefit of more social funds than citizens.

  • Are you going to argue that “no-holds-barred” – as in, fighting dirty – isn’t negative?

No, I’m going to argue that “no-holds-barred” is not “political operative” and that adjectives modify nouns. If you see the phrase “evil dog”, are you going to assume that must mean all dogs are evil?

I’d also argue that you’re wrong about what “no-holds-barred” means too. After all, this is actually from an article championing the person in question. You misread a compliment for an insult because you’re operating on the preconceived notion that both “no-holds-barred” and “political operative” are negative terms when neither are.

Are you going to argue that the system providing little control and no remedy isn’t a bad thing?

No, I’m going to argue that this question has nothing to do with showing that “political operative” is a pejorative term.

The other three examples are too out-of-context to know if they were complimentary or derogatory.

That didn’t stop you from trying to argue about these two above, when you believed that arguing about them out of context was in your favour. The other examples are just more inconvenient to try to twist into somehow showing “political operative” is a pejorative. And, as we’ve seen, context is not friendly to your assumption.

The article is mostly paywalled, but here’s a salient sentence from the first paragraph where it admits I’m right:

How do you go from “it’s wishful thinking to believe the public imagines political operatives and staffers to be like The West Wing” to “political operative is an insulting way to refer to political staffers or politicians”? This isn’t even getting into how the term is clearly and explicitly used in the headline in a way that indicates it as a neutral term that just describes a job, and that it will be used that way throughout the article.

The other two things you cited are from self-described “political operatives” themselves, and of course nobody believes themself to be the villain!

People aren’t going to refer to their jobs in a pejorative way either. Did you forget that you were trying to say calling someone a “smart politician” is better than calling someone a “political operative”? You weren’t saying all politicians are bad so nobody would ever admit they were one.

Again, where are you getting the idea that “political operator” is a term with a negative connotation?
