  • I’m laughing that the committee awarded the prize to a Venezuelan. Trump is going to be raging all day - all caps screeching about how he deserved to win, how Maria Machado is a loser, about how many conflicts he resolved etc. His government is going to be striking out against Venezuela (despite the winner being an opponent of the regime), Norway and the Nobel Prize organization. Fox will be on a rage fest too and all his proxies too. I guarantee that we’ll see esteemed members of Nobel getting detained at US borders, being deported etc because Trump is a sore loser little bitch.

  • Some people just don’t appreciate the irony of killing turtles with fish-shaped plastic, what can you do

PLA isn’t food safe in 3d printing mostly because of layers on a print trap foreign material / bacteria and water can also seep into microscopic gaps into infill and it becomes a breeding ground. I doubt it would be useful for anything squeezy but it might be useful for single use forks and other utensils. But paper / wood can do those things already so I don’t see PLA being much use. For sachets I expect the answer is paper with some kind of biodegradable lining which gives a product a shelf life of a few years but does degrade in time.

Also, some “biodegradable” products are only compostable in specialist facilities where it can be shredded and broken down with water / heat / pressure. I think PLA is a bit like that. If you print something out of PLA and stick it out in the garden or even toss it into a compost bin it’ll still be there in 10 years although it might be faded, warped & brittle. Maybe it eventually biodegrades but it’s not quick enough.

  • Trump is certainly a major contributor to the malaise - I bet visitors from Canada have fallen off a cliff and Europeans can’t be far behind. But even domestic visitors must be wondering wtf is going on with the place. It’s just so expensive and a rip off. There are even videos gone up on YouTube in the last few days by dedicated Vegas resident bloggers listing the ways they’re fucking over visitors - parking fees, resort fees, 000 roulette, 6:5 blackjack payouts, high table limits, etc. Some even say don’t bother until casinos read the room and start offering value again. Personally I don’t think MGM & Caesars are capable of it, but maybe some of the smaller off-strip casinos can do it - free parking, low table limits, buffets, cheap shows - the things that pull in customers. I doubt it will help with international visitor numbers but the smaller casinos probably rely on domestic visitors anyway and if they can attract them back then that’s something.

  • Not surprised given how Vegas has evolved in the last 10-15 years. Most of the casinos are run by MGM or Caesars so there is zero incentive to compete any more. It’s all expensive - the rooms, the meals, the shows. They slap bullshit like “resort fees” on everything. The comps / drinks are minimal. The table limits are ridiculous. Most of the public attractions are shut down or dialed back. The public transport is abysmal. Oh and Donald Trump has basically told the world that tourists aren’t welcome any more. I’m surprised anybody bothers going there any more quite frankly.

  • Well that was another thing - Elon did the usual bait and switch, promising a vehicle one price and then delivering something costing nearly double. He did the same with the Model 3 - promising 30k but launch price was nearer 60k.

Anyway I don’t think this vehicle is worth 40k either. At least the Model 3 was fundamentally sound design unlike the Cybertruck.

  • I think Musk drew this thing on the back of an envelope and forced it through to production against the protests and objections of everybody in Tesla. It sucks as a truck, it sucks as an EV, it costs way too much money, it’s so dangerous that it is banned in most of the world, it’s impractical, costly to repair, uninsurable and it falls to bits. It’s no wonder the thing failed.

  • It’s was her certainty in a fucked up belief set that makes her like RFK jr.

She allowed the sick to suffer and die because it was god’s will they should. She fed and housed the sick for her own salvation but made them suffer for theirs. What did not occur to her, is to actually treat those in her care, or separate the ones with communicable diseases, or offer palliative care or other relief. People died in squalid conditions while Mother Theresa was being feted by dictators and raking in millions.

So that’s why I compared RFK jr to her. They have certainty to their beliefs and they will not allow the evidence of their own eyes or those around shake that belief from them. And it is other people who suffer and die because of it.
