It’s not about perfection, it’s about it actually being enforceable at all.

News@lemmy.world•Utah first state to hold websites liable for users who mask their location with VPNs — law goes into effect, designed to prevent bypassing age checks
1·4 days agoYes. They’re passing laws they don’t understand. I’m surprised they didn’t randomly toss in NFT, Bitcoin, and Blockchain as buzz words.

World News@lemmy.world•Ghana becomes the latest African country to reject a US health deal, citing data sharing concernsEnglish
3·6 days agoI hate to burst your hate bubble, but the US isn’t even in the top 10 for obesity. They’re 17th, which isn’t great, but nowhere near number one.
Second, US healthcare costs are insane 100%. While I don’t like to regulate business, it’s utterly out of control. Along with car insurance, it’s legally required (for good reasons) but not government regulated is nuts.

World News@lemmy.world•Israel approves purchase of fighter jets from the USEnglish
8·6 days agoWhy don’t we just be honest, Israel is like a colony of the US in the middle east. You pay us for weapons with money we paid you so you can spread “freedom”.

3·6 days agoIt works about as good as the governments advise about saving money. Just stop eating one meal a day and eat less at the other two.

World News@lemmy.world•The Chinese Government Just Got the World’s Largest Digital Rights Conference CanceledEnglish
18·7 days agoFor real, lived in China for 5 years, it’s the most racist country I’ve been to. They even discriminate people from where they’re from in the country, it’s nuts.
Can you imagine if the US started a legit government backed operation in 2026 called One US Policy and forced everyone be “white” Christians? And I don’t mean suggestions, they FORCED you to do it. It would be world news about how the US is racist and whateverist ect. China? Nah it’s cool they’re just “unifying”.

World News@lemmy.world•Gordon Ramsay one of the first celebrity chefs to bring US-style 20 % service chargeEnglish
13·11 days agoThat’s why I don’t use food delivery services in the US. They say free delivery ect, then they add 30% to the food costs plus processing plus if you actually want your food hot. I don’t mind paying for the service, but don’t bullshit me like I’m a 5 years old and don’t understand what you’re doing. Just charge me $10 to deliver it or whatever and call it a fucking day.

World News@lemmy.world•‘We will not survive’: Toyota, Honda and Ford CEOs issue chilling warning about China — and it could hit your portfolioEnglish
1·11 days agoTBH, Chinese cars are pretty shitty. Their EVs have thermal runaway at an incredibly higher rate. BYDs storage facility just went up because a car sitting there caught fire.
As far as price, yeah it’s not competitive when they pay their workers 10% what Western countries do and give them a coffin apartment to stay in. Then steal the IP from other countries so they have nothing in R&D.
Here’s their clone of a Taycan, which also finished dead last in reliability tests because people were burning alive in them and crashing because systems would go nuts causing crashes. You enjoy your Chinese EV you saved money on, just keep that shit a mile from my house or “crappy non Chinese car” https://autopostglobal.com/electric-future/article/51496/

41·14 days agoIf you’re that easily swayed by a propaganda article in which I doubt “the family” exists, please move there because it’s a lot better. You’ll be crying in a month, I guarantee it. Lived there 5 years myself, it’s 100% the land of lies and fasods.

News@lemmy.world•SNAP benefits don't pay for rotisserie chicken. A bipartisan bill might change that
13·16 days agoBasically. We have a few grocery stores that have restaurants and put their left over food in a cooler to buy when they close (8pm). You can’t use snap until they relabel it and stick it in the cooler thing. Same food but because it isn’t handed to you it’s snap approved.
Could go full China and put people in camps and kill their pets with clubs when they sanitize their apartment.
