  • Theoretically, the argument would have been “Then vote in the primaries”. Problem being, a lot of people have been betrayed on Democratic primaries. Bernie Sanders was shown as popular before, and they still nixed him as an option. People largely agreed Joe Biden was too old to run, and yet he was way too late to offer up Kamala as an option; skipping past any primary that would have given people other choices.

People want to demonstrate “their choice” is popular, and the Democrats have taken away that choice pretty consistently. To me, it’s not enough to surrender a vote to fascism, but I think I understand the feeling.

  • Full quote:

In a clip from the interview posted to X by journalist Ken Klippenstein, Watters asked the vice president whether he considers “the militant transgender movement” to be a “domestic terrorist threat.”
“If you are encouraging people to commit acts of violence against the United States government or against your fellow Americans, absolutely. You’re involved in a terrorist movement,” Vance responded.

Not that I don’t think violence against trans people is absolutely his intention, thankfully, he didn’t manage to vocalize that specifically to his base, nor is he capable of doing it himself - he’s still very scared of getting sued for hate speech or libel, or for anything hate-related to happen under his direct watch. The quote was basically “If you’re a terrorist, you’re a terrorist!” with numerous wording twists to hope bigots would take further implication.

My point being, keep fighting them for being transphobic, but please don’t reach the level of fear at which you become afraid of daily life.

  • I think there’s multiple ways it can happen. Sometimes, incoming cultures aim to be inviting and inclusive, and do what they can to become involved with the surrounding community. But other cultures really silo themselves and never speak to “the foreigners” - while continuing to take up more and more of the area. They speak their home language, don’t discuss the existing culture or even share their own. They don’t act like guests, just tenants - sometimes not realizing that thanks to refugee programs they’re often paying “guest rate”, not “tenant rate”.

However, that certainly isn’t always the case. I’d point to the Italian and Hispanic cultures in America as some that have become distinctly American. It’s harder for me to give examples of the “silos” since, by definition, you don’t see much of them; but sometimes during elections, church gatherings, or other census-related actions, you’re reminded they exist.

  • I feel like these days, I have limited patience for gullibility. Quite often now, “They tricked me” or “They threatened me” is actually being used as an excuse for one’s own bigotry.

A hundred thousand ads telling me that puppies are monstrous mind-controlled Russian robots aiming to rape women in my community could not convince me of such a “fact”. And I feel that the political messaging around Trans people is just as convincing.

The strongest negative opinion I’ve seen from an honest, non-trolling non-partisan southern voter, was that he was upset about “Trans people taking our tax dollars”. But when asked further, he said “If they want to pay for their surgeries themselves (which they do) he’s totally fine with them.” All the rest are hiding their own deep-seated illogical hatred. Hardly anyone is solely defined as being a victim of indoctrination.

  • I hear this a lot, but I don’t think it’s the gotcha people claim it is. Most genocide in the modern day tries to aim for economic strangling by eliminating/stealing what few opportunities exist for some populations. See, for instance, the IDF’s efforts to starve Gaza rather than shoot every single Palestinian. Or fascist America’s efforts to deny jobs (even the ones that are not in competition) to disabled or minorities.

I don’t see it as “I’ma move and get rich”, I see it as “I’ma move and not starve on the street”.
