I used to be similar to your ex, and stuff like in this post is why I wore a t-shirt to the pool until I was like 20. Not saying I had it as bad as a fat person, but body shaming the other end of the spectrum ain’t it either.

Hm, depends how ‘breaking down’ is defined. Because it usually doesn’t mean there’s no toxic substance left. Instead, plastic degradation often IS the formation of micro or nano plastics. In this case, it’s irrelevant how long this process takes without knowing how long it takes until there’s no toxicity left.
Also, if something is described as ‘biodegradable’, I wouldn’t blame a consumer for composting it. And if it actually poisons the compost, that’s net harm. So, it’d be actively harmful green washing.

There’s certainly many cases like this. But I wouldn’t be dismissive like that- some are ONLY ignorant. I’ve changed someone’s mind before. They hadn’t had access to all that much formal education and it was just the standard way of thinking in their village. The hadnt heard it explained like I did before.

Oh yeah, that’s what it is in origin. But not for every idiot who falls for it. Some genuinely take it at face value and don’t apply the same anti-bodily-autonomy logic to anything else, and that’s what I find confusing.

That’s so fascinating!

Yep, nobody can be forced to use their body for anything, including the survival of a foetus, embryo, or even fully developed human. It’s so weird how most people would agree that nobody should be forced to even donate blood to save a life, but if it’s a uterus, it’s somehow controversial.

Wait is that possible? I’d donate my uterus in a heart beat. But I thought since organ transplants are a big deal and you have to be on immuno suppressants for life if you have one, among other issues, the receiver wouldn’t be able to safely be pregnant.

Even if they WERE done for funsies (which, like you said, they’re not), they’d just be early c sections. Nobody just kills an embryo if both it and the pregnant person could reasonably survive.

Man, I was going to go to a wedding there that was super important to me but now I’m SO torn.

If it makes you feel any better, we have a joke in Austria that we might as well not have an army, because we border 1) NATO, 2) Switzerland, and if either of those become a threat, we might as well capitulate immediately.

Genuinely curious, why? I’ve been meaning to understand where this idea comes from. Or do you just mean preferable as in you prefer their taste or something like that?
I think I was being unclear! I was trying to agree with you that banning ads with thin people is shitty, because when I was growing up, that was a huge thing, with ‘real men like curves’ and generally all the media being all about how gross it is to be skinny. And so I felt compelled to hide my underweight body. ‘protruding collar bones’ like in the article is pretty much a direct quote from quite a few of my bullies. It’s important to fight fat phobia, but this really ain’t it.
