6·11 months agoUntil the Chinese market is fully accessible to EU auto builders, and the Chinese autobuilders open their books for auditing against unfair subsidies, the EU Automarket should be properly tariffed for Chinese autobuilders.

World News@lemmy.world•New prison to isolate 100 of France's most dangerous drug lords.English
1·11 months agoSeems like a good place for high risk prisoners in general. Court via secure connection for the rest all comms and anything in and out can be easily managed. Maybe even an EU project the Netherlands has some life sentences heavy criminals… Dutroux, Fritzl, Breivik and a few of Europe’s finest can be housed there.

News@lemmy.world•CNN bans guest for telling Muslim journalist 'I hope your beeper doesn't go off'
0·1 year agoThe settler colonial project of Israel is filled with rabid fascists, I agree whole heartedly. The current government of Israel is peak of that performance.
But trying to paint this as a boobytrap, and targeting civilians. I don’t think anyone buys that for a minute.
And this was hardly indiscriminate. It was pagers that where handed directly to Hezbollah and distributed by Hezbollah through their network. It’s not as if these where sold by shops in Lebanon to normal Lebanese.
And collateral sucks, but this still had less than the bomb that was dropped on the appartment complex with the command bunker under it filled with Hezbollah staff.

News@lemmy.world•CNN bans guest for telling Muslim journalist 'I hope your beeper doesn't go off'
0·1 year agoA supply chain of a terrorist organisations was infiltrated and they where sold devices fitted with explosives and then distributed it within their organisation.
Everyone with a pager (and later also other devices) fell within the Hezbollah hierachy. The fact Hezbollah has infiltrated every level of society and has Docters and many others in their ranks does not make them invalid targets.
Besides, judging from the videos, we saw people standing next to whoever had the pager where mostly fine. The children dieing is horrible.
So calling it indiscriminate is more than a stretch. And the collateral damage is wayyyyy lower than with the rest of how Israël behaves.

News@lemmy.world•CNN bans guest for telling Muslim journalist 'I hope your beeper doesn't go off'
0·1 year agoIndiscriminate it was not. It was hyper targeted at everyone in the command chain that got a beeper. It’s not as if they sold them through normal stores to the general population.

World News@lemmy.world•Ukrainian soldiers suspected they would invade Russia when they got new rifles, but still thought it was a joke when the orders came throughEnglish
0·1 year agoI don’t get what you are trying to argue. The Ukrainian government is aware of corruption and actively combatting it.
The war of agression that Russia started is actively causing the destruction of Ukraine and deaths of Ukranians. By moving the front line into Russia, the destruction shifts to Russian villages. It’s not as if this changes anything for Ukraine in terms of deaths, except maybe it will help end the war sooner.

World News@lemmy.world•Ukrainian soldiers suspected they would invade Russia when they got new rifles, but still thought it was a joke when the orders came throughEnglish
0·1 year agoYes, and in 2023 the corruption in the recruitment medical sphere was adressed by the Ukranians.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/aug/11/zelenskiy-sacks-all-military-recruitment-heads-over-frontline-bribes-scandal-ukraineUkraine had a lot of corruption from the good old days, and probably still has. They are actively addressing this. Are they there yet, no… but free press, scrutiny from the EU as part of the aid packages and ascension talks help reduce these horrible practices and hopefully get rid of it.
Untill then, shining light on it is important. They are in a fight for survival and corruption hurts them, they know.

0·1 year agoIf you are in the military and refuse orders there is a military court that deals with you. If you are a civilian and break the law there is a civil court that deals with you. Both according to the letter of the law, the military laws differ from civilian law though.

A fine does not mean you get to keep doing it. Initially it just proves that tasking 4 people to just get the data would have been cheaper. Now he needs to do that and still task the people.
Next step is escalating if they do not comply. They did the same in Brazil escalating all the way to turning off Twitter.
I guess what I’m saying is “patience grasshopper”
