Something I keep coming back to while grinding certification exams: the exams do not really test recall, they test how you reason under a time limit with incomplete information. That is a different skill and it needs different practice.

What worked for me:

  • Short timed sets, not marathon mocks. 25 questions in 30 minutes, three or four times a week. The constraint is the point.
  • Keep a miss log with a reason, not the answer. Almost every wrong answer of mine came from misreading a qualifier (“BEST”, “FIRST”, “MOST likely”), not from ignorance.
  • Interleave domains. Studying one domain to completion feels productive and retains badly.

Free question banks I use for the timed sets: https://www.examcert.app/

The ones I run most often: https://www.examcert.app/exams/cissp/ https://www.examcert.app/exams/pmp/ https://www.examcert.app/exams/aws-solutions-architect-associate/

There is also an AI explainer that argues through why each distractor is wrong, which is closer to actual reasoning practice than a plain answer key: https://ai.examcert.app/

Anyone else find that exam prep improved their everyday reasoning more than their domain knowledge?
