As fucking awful and dystopian as this shit is, I know one particular motherfucker who is about to get his shit rocked administration style.

Welder I worked with at the coast guard was the laziest, most disgusting individual I have ever had the misfortune of meeting. He would regularly take 45+ minute “bathroom breaks” where he would sit in the stall on the phone with his wife or even straight up go to sleep sitting on the toilet. On the few occasions he actually needed to go, he would STILL TALK ON THE PHONE TO HIS WIFE.

WHAT THE ACTUAL GROWN UP FUCK.

I cannot fucking fathom a universe in which it is ever permissible to chitchat on the phone at work with your spouse while taking a shit. Never have I seen such little class or dignity in a professional setting. I asked my super about it and he said they’ve tried talking to him about it and he just does not see any problem with his behavior. Any other industry would get rid of him in a fucking heartbeat but government was always so scared of any kind of discrimination or cultural insensitivity complaint that they never addressed it. Now?

Now that guy is super fucked and it couldn’t have happened to a bigger piece of shit.

  • The original intent of the stop was a headlight violation.

The problem with that is that it wasn’t raining, invalidating the reason for the stop.

From that point forward, the interaction should have immediately stopped. Without PC for the headlight violation, the police had no authority to demand ID. Since they couldn’t demand ID, they didn’t have a reason to arrest. That invalidates the resisting charge.

Start to finish this was a crazy interaction and I hope every cop involved has a very happy get lynched in front of their families. :)

  • Americans don’t think lmfao especially the police. Did you know that it is legal to discriminate against applicants to the police if they are too smart? There’s whole court cases about this. Apparently, the argument is that people who are smarter will be less obedient when given an order because they might just employ some critical thinking skills instead of blindly following directions.

Police don’t want thinkers. They might be “bored” or “dissatisfied” when they figure out they’re nothing but bullies to keep the citizens in line.

So no, if you see a cop in riot gear at a protest, do not expect a thinking, feeling, or compassionate human being. A cop in riot gear is a goon through and through, and a trusted goon at that. Goons only understand force, and if you show them more force than they’re prepared to handle, their core programming as self serving cowards will come to the surface. Self serving cowards are people who can be salvaged. Goons are not.

  • Former federal employee and member of AFGE here.

My experience with AFGE is that they are maliciously incompetent at their jobs. I worked for 6 months and never heard from the union ONCE, despite reaching out multiple times. Turns out, everyone from the local (1533) had left the union around 2 years before I’d started. The national office just ignored the problem, and purposefully left everyone covered by that local completely unrepresented.

After 6 months of gaslighting, contract violations, and hazing, I’d had enough, and started standing up for myself. I started invoking my Weingarten rights. I started quoting specific sections of the contract. I kept sending emails to the national office for my union.

I was fired less than a week later for “rocking the boat” and making a complaint outside my chain of command. I was a civilian, and I did not have a “chain of command”.

About a week after I’d been terminated, the national office FINALLY assigned a union rep to my local. What did the rep finally tell me? While I was correct that I was entitled to union rights as a probationary employee (it was specified in the contract), the union didn’t have the funds available to fight for me, so they wouldn’t. The most they would do is help me draft complaints about my treatment, which would at best result in a “posting” for the base i worked at. A “posting” is a letter they have to hang on the wall saying what they did and how they’ll try their very best not to do it again.

No compensation. No justice. No accountability.

Fuck AFGE sideways for taking my dues and refusing to fight for me. I hope every last one of you gets terminal stage five asshole cancer.

  • Welders and machinist are retiring in droves and very few young people are coming in to replace them. Worse, the skills they’re showing up with aren’t applicable to the reality of the job. I’ve seen a LOT of CNC guys twist up their whole scrotum when asked to manually set up a lathe or mill. Programming or whatever is nifty but it won’t help you actually make a fucking part. I can’t tell you how many apprentices have given me a blank look when I ask them to read a mechanical micrometer instead of a digital. Or worse, VERNIER. It’s pathetic. And that’s just machine work. Welding is worse. The smoke and sparks are “scary”, but they’ll try to turn up the acetylene past 15 psi like they’re not about to blow up half a block. Surprise, they don’t know how to run a torch either.

I got laid off Monday, and Thursday I’m doing paperwork to get paid at a new job next monday. Skilled trades feels good.
