I see I, as an atheist looking in, haven’t realized this. It makes sense to me…Hispanics are largely Catholic, blacks are largely baptist and protestant. Having different god-rules, despite having the same god, makes them no different than Jews or Muslims. Another “other”.
Man, used to be that you’d adopt the religion of your oppressor, assimilate, and they’ll leave you more or less alone. Sure there’d be racism and attacks and whatnot, and yeah they completely destroyed your history, culture and community in the process… but at least it’s not full on slavery, and when it was slavery, there was at least some illusion of due process in front of it (a la US 13th amendment).

Yeah. People with ADHD, Autism, etc…we get special powers. The problem is, we aren’t built for this world. It’s too damn busy and overstimulating. I just want to live in a cave and pick berries. I bet I’d be good at that.
I guess that would depend on whether or not it is an evolutionary advantage. I can see it, in some niches, and especially in pre-industrial era. I think the same is true of ADHD.
I get that that sounds crass or even eugenecistic (?), but that’s, kinda, how it is. Traits that are considered advantageous are gifts; traits that are considered disadvantageous are considered disorders.
The same could be said of athleticism, if there’s some generic mutation that i.e. makes muscle mass develop rapidly, I could easily see that as being a marker for heart disease or various types of cancer, making hyperathleticism a disorder.
But I guess you could say that that’s also on a spectrum.
Not to mention, we have tons of documentation of people behaving and expressing in ways that would now be diagnosed as ASD, prior to ASD existing as a diagnosis and acetaminophen. Explain that.

Granted, one of them is the only (legal, defined) pathway to fixing the other two. And they only have that because of a combination of Gerrymandering, campaigning on fear, voter suppression, and because we haven’t changed the size of the house since The Reapportionment Act of 1929 (almost 100 years ago), when the population was literally 1/3 what it is today…greatly weakening how much representation people in densely populated states (which tend to align closer with Democratic ideals).

I, a cis white male, was at the dollar store and there was a black woman behind me buying a bunch of SpongeBob candy. She’s doing a trunk or treat tonight at her work, she works at a center for autistic kids. And the cashier, a trans man from Virginia, shared his stories of trunk-or-treats and cakewalks. And she told me a story about one of her kids at the center who loves SpongeBob and got her to do the theme. And I shared my story of how my wife and I dressed as Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy for Halloween a few years ago.
I never heard of a cakewalk before, but that’s beside the point.
The thing is, I don’t think you’d have a conversation with that particular arrangement of people be so friendly and wholesome in Virginia, at a dollar store of all places.
